INTERNATIONAL TREE PLANTING RELAY "FRIENDSHIP GARDEN" HAS STARTED TODAY IN KHANTY-MANSIYSK

The relay took place under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO and the International Organization of the Northern Regions "Northern Forum". The event is timed to coincide with World Environment Day.

The idea of this campaign arose during the Third Eurasian Women's Forum, chaired by the Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko. It was proposed by Irina Novikova, Chairperson of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in the Asian Region, Purnima Anand, President of the BRICS International Forum, and Draginja Vlk, Deputy of the City of Belgrade of the Republic of Serbia. The idea was also supported by the coordinator of the project "Eurasian Association of Women Regional Leaders", Governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps of the BRICS countries, the SCO, the International Organization "Northern Forum", participants of the XIII International IT Forum and the UNESCO Conference took part in the campaign. In total, representatives of 12 countries and 11 regions of Russia took part in the event. Representatives of 3 countries and 22 municipalities joined the event in an online format.

In Khanty-Mansiysk, the sunniest place was chosen for the garden, according to the experts of the UNESCO Department "Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change – the site of the Ugra-Expo Convention and Exhibition Center. The participants planted apple trees and lilac bushes. Water was delivered from the confluence of the Ob and Irtysh rivers. At this time, residents of Thailand, India, Zambia, and Kuzbass planted their "friendship gardens" online.

At the event, the Governor of Ugra presented

certificate for the International Tree Planting Relay "Friendship Garden" to the representative of the International Organization of Northern Regions "Northern Forum" and representatives of Mongolia. Head of the region also noted that such a campaign is taking place for the first time in the world. The relay is aimed to strengthen careful attitude of the peoples of the world to natural resources.
