The Belarusian Women's Union organized a presentation of the exhibition “Women. War. Victory” in Minsk
On June 21, 2024, the presentation of the photo exhibition of the PublicAssociation “Belarusian Union of Women” together with the Belarusian Telegraph
Agency “Women. War. Victory” took place.
The exhibition is dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of
the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian people and the 80th
anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. The exhibition
includes 44 archival photographs that share the story about the hardships that befell
Belarusians during and after the war years.
“Women on an equal basis with men, and maybe even more, really accomplished
the feat,” Olga Shpilevskaya, chairman of the Belarusian Women's Union, noted in
a comment to journalists, “the feat was performed by mothers who sent their sons
to fight, the feat was performed by wives who were waiting for their husbands.
They performed the feat later, when, without waiting, they restored our cities,
villages, towns from the ruins.”
Olga Shpilevskaya is sure that it is extremely important to show such photos,
reminding modern generations of the history of 80 years ago. “We must pay tribute
to the memory of these women, even in photographs, and say words of gratitude
for the fact that they accomplished this feminine feat,” the chairman noted.
Lydia Yermoshina, member of the Council of Elders of the Belarusian Women's
Union, added that the war was an event that split the lives of our heroines into
before and after. “Many of those whose portraits we see today did not even live to
see the end of the war. They went into immortality. But the immortality of these
people is our memory. It is wonderful that our journalists, our leading information
company, provided these photos. A wide range of people will see them. Let's keep
this memory alive,” she urged.
The exhibition “Woman. War. Victory” will last until July 3 In the future, as Olga
Shpilevskaya noted, the exposition should travel to all regions of Belarus.
