The results of the International Scientific and Practical conference “Youth Arctic” were summed up in Khanty-Mansiysk
On May 25, 2024, the results of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Youth Arctic: Science for the Future” were summed up in Khanty-Mansiysk.
During the conference, the following events were held: an international discussion platform “The North and the Arctic: youth scientific dialogue,” an educational design-related intensive “Youth Arctic: Science for the future,” a strategic session “The Arctic – responds to the heart,” that is devoted to creative ideas for the development of the northern territories in many different areas, including the quality of life of the population of the northern and Arctic territories, ecology and nature management, ethnocultural tourism and Arctic tourism, infrastructure development.
Participants from China, Mongolia, India, Uzbekistan, Belarus, regions of Russia and municipalities of Ugra presented more than 30 projects of practical importance for solving urgent socio-economic and environmental problems in the development of the northern and Arctic territories.
According to the results of the work, the presentation of projects by the conference participants, federal and international experts, three winners were chosen:
Olga Lvova, a student of the master's program “Arctic Regional Studies” of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), was awarded a diploma of the first degree with the project “Ecological and geochemical assessment of the current hydrocarbon state of soils and bottom sediments of the Arctic zone of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the study of their ability to restore.”
The diploma of the II degree was awarded to Antonina Paklenkova, a leading methodologist of the KSTC, a member of the public organization of youth from among the KMNS in the Kamchatka Territory “Friendship of the Northerners,” an artist of the KORITEV ensemble. The program for the revival and popularization of the traditional culture of the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka “Land of Kutha” was developed by the public organization of the youth of the KMNS in the Kamchatka Territory “Friendship of the Northerners” and the youth national ensemble “KORITEV.” The project from the Kamchatka Folk Art Center involves the department of preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
Natalia Predeina, Head of the Department of General Education of the Education Committee of the Berezovsky District Administration, from the Berezovsky district of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra, was awarded a diploma of the III degree. Experienced geologists from among the residents of Saranpaul village, researchers, writers, and researchers participated in the development of the project.
The Berezovsky district team presented the project “Educational campus in the mountains of the Circumpolar Urals,” which has a career orientation and contributes to the formation of students' scientific knowledge of the northern and Arctic territories in the mountains of the Circumpolar Urals, the study of environmental processes, as well as the development of interregional network cooperation in the field of geology among young scientists of the Russian Federation.
The projects presented at the conference will have the opportunity to be promoted on the site of the International Organization of the Northern Regions “Northern Forum,” the Russian-Asian Consortium for Arctic Research. Representatives of Mongolia and China were invited to an internship at Ugra State University. The winners were also invited to join the International Club “Eurasian Association of Women Regional Leaders”
“Discussion platforms of this level are a great opportunity for talented young people to exchange experiences and establish professional contacts. Ugra State University has long been immersed in studying issues related to the development of the Northern and Arctic territories, and the projects presented today by our students confirm this. I am confident that through such events we will contribute to strengthening the scientific, technical, economic and human resources foundation for the development of the Arctic zone,” said Roman Kuchin, Rector of Ugra State University.
The events of the conference were held with the support of the Government of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra, in partnership with the International Organization of Northern Regions “Northern Forum,” the Russian-Asian Consortium for Arctic Research.
